Daymans DIY is our family run DIY and hardware store which has been based in the heart of Leicester since 1928. Our business has been handed down through the generations of our family over the years. Founded by my great grandfather William Edward Dayman in 1928 on the same road that we are based today. The shop is currently ran by my dad, Steve Dayman (3rd generation) & myself, Adam Dayman (4th generation) with my sister Olivia (4th generation) assisting with the website. Excellent personal customer service is at the heart of our business and we always have the kettle on and a hot cup of tea for anyone who comes to our store. Whether its to have a brew whilst they wait for their order or to have a browse around the shop. Many of our customers have become friends over the years and we know them by name as they know us.
We see ourselves as part of our community and assist many local charity projects both through our annual christmas charity raffle or throughout the year with projects where we offer free materials or large discounts to support these charities. We have been able to raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities which are close to our heart.
Our biggest service which we provide is our support and advice. Our customers use us because they trust that we are there to help them and not just make the biggest sale. We will happily talk through the best way with how to complete some DIY jobs or how to use a product in our store no matter the value of the item. After all we want people to have the confidence to give some DIY jobs a go and we enjoy seeing peoples confidence grow and be with them on their journey of their project. We have assisted people renovate houses, boats, offices, workshops and more. We also love to show off their success on our social media pages for all to see what a cracking job they’ve done.
A service we offer is buying what you need not the whole pack. What we mean by this is if you want to buy one screw or bolt then we will provide you with this. We offer many fixtures and fittings loose which not only saves our customers money but also reduces waste of excess fittings. This is something that we have always done since we started.
In 2020 we launched our website which was a huge moment in our business’s history. We are extremely proud of our website and have published every product and post ourselves and not outsourced any of this. This means we are in full control of our website and can tailor this as we wish. We now have over 5300 products and counting on our website for our customers to buy locally or nationally. This has also expanded our reach to customers outside of Leicester which has been great to see orders being shipped throughout the UK and even some around the world as far as Australia. This has also seen us adapt with the market that people want to buy online and we have been able to facilitate this. Myself and sister Olivia oversee the website and are so proud of what we have achieved.
Finally we offer an order in service. So if we don’t stock a product but can get hold of it we will order this in for any of our customers whether it’s a one off or a large order.
Last year we were lucky enough to win this award and to celebrate winning with my dad really was a dream for both of us and quite emotional to think how far we have come and to be recognised for all our hard work. We have been so proud to tell people of this news and it has really helped our business and we have had a number of suppliers wanting to do business with us after hearing about the award so its really benefitted the business.
